Age 31, Ben is based in Northumberland where he successfully runs his business, Shadow Sports Horses alongside his eventing career. 

Ben started his competition success from a young age winning at most of the local shows, with his first big win at Ponies UK.

At age 18, he became National Under 21 Champion and was selected for the British young rider squad, which culminated in team gold and individual bronze at the Young Rider European Eventing Championships in Germany.  His national success includes National Novice Champion, National British Open Champion and twice National 4 year Old Champion.

2019 saw Ben and his top horse Shadow Man II, win individual silver and team silver for Great Britain in the Nations Cup in Poland resulting him being long-listed for the 2019 European Eventing Championships. Ben’s wife Emma also competed in the same Nations Cup team making them the very first eventing couple in history to compete together on a British equestrian team.

Ben may be best known for his ride on the super-cob Clydesdale x, Mulrys Error, who has jumped double clear at Burghley, Badminton, Braham and Blenheim. In 2016 the pair successfully competed at Badminton 5* just one year after Ben was diagnosed and underwent treatment for an aggressive form of cancer, sharing his recovery with his enormous fan base of over 90k Instagram and Facebook followers.

Always dreaming big, Ben’s has his sights firmly set on Tokyo 2020.Â
