I am really excited to be one of Jump4Joy’s new sponsored riders for 2019 and I have just had a delivery of jumps from them which look fabulous in our arena. We got to use them for the first-time last week running up to Belton Horse Trials and the new jumps certainly got our horses in the air; culminating in double clears and placings at Belton.

We have chosen a selection of showjumps to use in our arena of varying colours and types, to help to educate our horses at home on the type of fences they will see when out competing. It is also great for my clients to get to jump a full course when they come for a lesson because it allows me to see how they might react to the pressures of competing.

The new fishbowl fillers have proved to be a favourite so far, they look fantastic and, bar the odd spook, they have jumped really well. We have also chosen 2 sets of planks, one wavy and the other straight. Planks act as a great tool for training just before a competition and sometimes we use a single plank to help bring the horse’s eye sight up to the top rail to help them judge a fence better.

Another useful addition to our course are Jump4Joy water trays. We have chosen a large blue water tray and 2 smaller hexagonal trays. It’s easy to avoid practicing these as horses often spook at them and give the rider an awkward jump, but they are becoming increasingly common in Eventing show jumping courses and with practice, horses tend to become used to them.

Our arena has developed over the last few years to include a slope, ditches, steps and water so the addition of Jump4Joy’s portable xc fences has been fantastic. We have the ascending triple brush, a few hanging brushes and 2 shoulder brushes and they really are great fun. The jumps are so easy to change around in terms of position and height (even for a pregnant person) and by creating some amazing angles I can even challenge Allstar B. With these jumps I have lots of new course building ideas that I can’t wait to try out so my clients are going to be challenged in the next few weeks!

2 weeks ago, I did my first travelling clinic where I took my Jump4Joy skinnies with me in the boot of my car. It was fantastic to be able to create more exciting and educational courses for people, supplementing the facilities I was coaching at so everyone had a great time.

I am really pleased with our new set of jumps and their flexibility for my needs. Onwards and upwards to the next events and sharing my special season with you.
