FIXING PORTABLE CROSS COUNTRY FENCES
SAFETY REGULATIONS
“All our Cross Country fences are intended for training purposes only. Please note that any portable fences used in cross country courses must be pinned or fixed to the ground in accordance with safety regulations.” MORE DETAILED ADVICE ON THE REGULATIONS IF AND WHEN REQUIRED:
There are two main ways of fixing a portable fence: Ground Anchors
A metal ground fixing screw (such as a Spirafix screw) which is approximately 2 inches in cross section and between 14-24 inches long, is banged into the ground and bolted to the jump. Pins can be at the rear of the fence as well, but must be at the front. The brackets on the rame of the fence must be securley fixed through at least three holes and show no signs of wear. Posts
Traditionally done by securing the flat side of a semi-circular wooden stake to the frame of the fence. They should be of sufficient substance, must be at least 50cm into the ground and be secured to the actual fence to prevent it from lifting up. There should be posts at the back and front of the fence.
